Waste, Fraud & client abuse often occurs routinely at so called Nursing Rehabilitation facilities.
Like when a patient is transferred from the hospital to a so called "rehab" for what they were told by hospital social worker to be 3 weeks of treatment & sometimes at home medical equipment such as wheelchair & in reality the patient is held hostage by the facility for 9 months or as long as PROFITABLE if insurance, especially government insurance is the responsible payee!
Even if the "hostage" patient requests discharge from the facility they may get the run around from staff for weeks or until a person from outside calls and threatens the director with legal actions!
The director will sometimes use the excuse they sought the patient's SAFETY upon leaving the facility to an appropriate home situation or using a proper means of transportation. This may be legit or may not.
But basically as long as the facility is getting sustainable financing particularly from a government program they become "Hotel California" "We are programmed to receive" ...... And in some cases will try to redirect Social security benefits from the patient's control to theirs as soon as they can claiming falsely to be "their authorized payee" when no such discussion has occurred!
This is when Medicaid or Medicare get milked by for profit death mills which only "rehabilitate" from wet bed to bed bag ASAP!
