Undocumented worker poor eyesight?

Has it ever occured to anyone at OSHA that instead of drug testing employees particularly undocumented ones (using dangerous machinery) EYE TESTING would be smarter!

Workers too poor or young to have their EYESIGHT MEASURED can injure themselves while operating dangerous machinery such as wood or metal processing equipment or driving motor vehicles!

When injuries happen an employee is immediately suspected of drug or drink use or inattention to mgmt instructions!

When ACTUALLY the real cause of an injury may have been POOR EYESIGHT like Near or Farsightedness never diagnosed and never corrected due to inability to PAY FOR AN EYE EXAM and corrective lenses!

NEW EMPLOYEES WHO are DRUG TESTED SHOULD ALSO be EYESIGHT TESTED!!

Even by simple preliminary "quizzes" such as ask them to read an analog & digital clock certain distances away from them in the office or factory!

(If an employee yells out "What time is it" surrounded by wall clocks that's a hint of major eye trouble!)

Ask him or her to read a street, traffic sign or billboard at distance required by state DMV handbook !  Pass/Fail ?

Then consider referring employee to Lens Crafters or similar.

It will cost you less than JOB INJURY CLAIMS , INSURANCE INCREASE, LOST productivity and employee turnover, recruitment hassles!
