The ports are jammed, the cans are rusting in stacks and the truck drivers are fading away. So WHAT ABOUT FREIGHT TRAINS? What's the math? How long will the driver shortage continue versus How long would it take to RESTORE RAILROAD SIDINGS at major ports and near major distribution centers? If containers were off loaded reasonably near distribution centers truck drivers would be hired "locally" and find their jobs less stressful with more time off plus American highways would be much safer for all!
Trains, on the other hand, have flat cars which can carry containers and truck trailers by the hundreds. President Biden could get behind this with an emergency declaration and also in his infrastructure bill showing that the railroads still play an important part in our national economy and transportation system !!
