Sounds like some company was doing exploratory drilling for something (fracking?) without phoning "811" for utility line locations below digging site!! Or possible minor earthquake from natural seismic activity?
The Lake PEIGNOIR disaster occurred in a Louisiana shallow lake when an oil exploration drill punched a hole into the ceiling of a salt mine complex causing a massive whirlpool eventually draining the entire lake into the mine below and damaging surrounding properties as well as destroying the entire salt mine.
Stupid digging by the lazy and mathematically challenged can lead to major disasters and costs.
