Most likely the reason Trump won't release his income tax figures is because if he loses the race for the White house, which he seems to be trying to do in every way possible, then he will literally go on with 'business as usual' plus a load of new publicity!
As we all know by now Trump uses the mystery of his net worth and the illusion that it, like the prophet Mohammad, is so great and high that it's net value is inconceivable, as his bargaining chip for winning huge loans to pay his debts as well as launch new ventures with borrowed capitol.
If he really wanted and expected to win the White house he'd let go of the coveted data. On the other hand, if this whole thing is just a huge publicity stunt, his antidote for boredom and he really does NOT want the job because it pays too little (and would be a big PAIN IN THE ASS)! as well as an inconvenience for his business empire, then he's hiding the jewels BECAUSE he plans to lose the election and go on "a really long vacation" - his words.
A vacation followed by a return to the comforts of private life and his business empire after having gone out, had a 'little' fun, scored tons of free publicity and as his ego would see it, "Changed the world and US political history" - "Ah what the hell, they can take that job AND SHOVE IT" !
